Improving housing, improving neighbourhoods - setting our agenda

We have achieved a great deal since 2003…and come a long way towards meeting these objectives. Our properties are much improved and we are on course for meeting the Decent Homes Standard in advance of the Government’s deadline of 2010. We have introduced new services and improved existing ones - and we have maintained high levels of customer satisfaction for them. We have made significant savings through more efficient ways of working. We have received national recognition for the way we involve tenants in key decisions and we are effective in the way we reach out and support our more vulnerable tenants.

Even with so much progress having been made, there is still more work to be done. We try to be efficient because we know there are more things to do in our neighbourhoods, more and better services that can be provided and further improvements to our homes that can be made. We will continue to deliver the services that matter to tenants and keeping assisting the Council in meeting the strategic challenges of our district.

Housing in Cornwall is changing; the prices are increasing for everyone and more homes are needed. We firmly believe that there is a place for more rented housing that is located in successful neighbourhoods. We believe we have the track record for locally managing rented housing and the neighbourhoods we manage are and will remain places that people are proud to live in.

It is this challenge that has provided the incentive for our new objective on more rented housing

We have consulted extensively on the priorities in the future. At its core is a clear commitment to continue providing services to tenants well beyond the current contract which ends in 2010. We aim to agree a new contract with the Council and focus on:

Continuing to deliver excellent housing services
Improving homes and neighbourhoods
Creating more rented homes
Making best use of assets to meet community needs
Increasing income

We will focus on delivering the objectives but in doings so we will always follow one simple philosophy “we want tenants to have a clear and influential role in everything we do”. The pdf below “Setting our Agenda ” (Vision Statement) shows how we will go about meeting this challenge.
